What is Kiosk Mode?

Learn how Kiosk Mode enables shared device access with optional user sign-in using PINs.

Overview

Kiosk Mode allows Shifty to be used on a shared device without requiring each user to sign in with their personal credentials.

When enabled, certain areas of Shifty can be accessed without signing in. Users also have the option to identify themselves using a personal PIN to access their account, similar to using Shifty on their own device.

This is especially useful in workplaces where employees may not have access to personal devices or email during work hours.

How Kiosk Mode Works

Kiosk Mode supports two types of access on a shared device:

  • Unauthenticated access:
    Certain parts of Shifty are available without requiring a user to sign in

  • User access with PIN:
    Users can enter their unique 4-digit PIN to access their account without needing to complete the standard passwordless email login process

When Kiosk Mode is enabled, a 4-digit PIN is automatically generated for each user at the location.

How to Enable Kiosk Mode on a Device

  1. Ensure a Manager is logged into the shared device

  2. Confirm the device is set to the correct location

  3. Open the More menu

  4. Select Enter Kiosk Mode

  5. The app will restart in Kiosk Mode

How to Exit Kiosk Mode

  1. Enter a Manager PIN on the device

  2. Open the More menu

  3. Select Exit Kiosk Mode

  4. The app will restart in regular operating mode

Things to Know

  • Shifty uses a passwordless login system that typically requires access to a user’s email on their personal device

  • Kiosk Mode allows users to access their account without needing email access or their personal device at the time of use

  • A unique 4-digit PIN is generated for each user when Kiosk Mode is enabled

  • PINs can be updated:

    • By a Manager in the Users section of the WebApp

    • By the user in their profile settings in the app

  • Kiosk Mode is intended for shared workplace devices

Example

In workplaces where employees are not allowed to use personal devices during shifts, Kiosk Mode allows them to access Shifty from a shared device using their PIN instead of relying on email-based login.
