How do I create a training shift?

Create training shifts with checklist items, resources, and training details in Shifty.

Overview

Training shifts in Shifty define what should be covered during a trainee’s training session.

A training shift can include an overview, location and department settings, checklist items, optional resources, uniform details, and flashcard test settings. This helps trainers follow a consistent training process and ensures trainees receive the right information for their role.

How to Create a Training Shift

  1. In the Web App, go to Training.
  2. Select Training Shifts.
  3. Click Add Item.
  4. Enter a name for the training shift.
  5. Select the location settings for the training shift.
  6. Assign a department, or leave it set to all departments if the training shift applies to everyone.
  7. Select whether the training shift has a flashcard test.
  8. Add a brief overview of the training shift.
  9. Add any details the trainee should know before attending, such as what to bring.
  10. Select a uniform, if applicable.
  11. Add checklist items for the trainer to cover during the training shift.
  12. Attach any related resources, if needed.
  13. Save the training shift.

Things to Know

  • Training shifts are managed from Training > Training Shifts in the Web App.
  • Training shifts can be specific to certain locations.
  • Training shifts can be assigned to a specific department or left available for all departments.
  • Checklist items should cover the key topics or tasks the trainee needs to complete.
  • Resources can be attached to support specific checklist items.
  • If flashcards are associated with the training shift, enabling a flashcard test assigns that test when the training shift is completed.
  • The overview should stay brief and explain what the training shift is about.

Example

A manager creates an Orientation training shift for new servers and bartenders.

The training shift includes an overview, a checklist with items like facility tour, staff introductions, where to put personal belongings, where to park, and being added to the POS. The manager also attaches a parking map resource to help the trainee understand where to park before their first shift.
